dapplegrey art is a collection of pet portraits and general artwork by artist, Jane Disney.  As well as pet portraits, you will find the odd landscape, a few human portraits and various animal studies ranging from naughty puppies and even naughtier squirrels to the moongazing hares and unicorns of myth and legend.

I can't remember a time when I didn't love two things: drawing and animals (especially horses).  It wasn't until 1990 that I combined the two in the most logical way and did my first pet portrait,  a lovely doberman; his portrait was well received and that one picture set me on a path where I dabbled for years before deciding to do pet portraits professionally.

When I'm not working on pet portraits and the odd human portrait, I'm working on pictures which you can find for sale in my gallery; these are quite random in their subject matter and can be inspired by anything I see or hear; a story about someone's naughty puppy, a chance meeting with a red squirrel, a moonlit night or misty morning, a good book ...  I also have a fascination with astronomy and mythology - you will see them come together in some of my pictures.

Why dapplegrey?

dapplegrey is for the most noble animal that we are privileged to share a world with; the horse.  For the gentle giant heavy horses and their forebears who built our civilisation; for our sleek and athletic sporting horses; for our uncomplaining and hardworking riding school horses and for naughty Thelwellian ponies gleefully bucking off children at gymkhanas everywhere.  This is my tribute.
